Ignorance vs. Spiritual Immaturity
This is a serious topic for some, yet one that truly needs discussion. Hopefully with whomever you're discussing it with will have some knowledge. If not, then you'll simply go around and around. How do you get someone to understand the importance of a certain matter when they're ignorant? Not that they mean to be or could care less,it's just that they simply don't undertstand.
Well, the best I can say is that you have to be patient with that person because in all of our lives at one point or another, we've all been ignorant to something. It could be because we lack experience, information, education, etc.
Now what about spiritual immaturity? Touchy, I know. Well,in my opinion this would fall under the person who may be a christian ,a new babe in Christ. This could also be a person whose been a christian for awhile, yet they haven't developed the spiritual maturity needed to nurture 'important" relationships. They haven't developed themselves to make decisions based on UNselfishness in some areas. Spiritual immaturity doesn't look at things as a common sense basis. Their logic, is simply, "their own". Spiritually immaturity understands the concept of the christian walk, but implements their own rational thinking when it's convenient for them.
It will be convenient for them when they are trying to do something that doesn't line up with God's word, and the way they are to behave. You will have a hard time trying to convince a spiritually immature person that he or she is wrong more than an ignorant person sometimes. Why? Well because some people who may be ignorant to some things are atleast willing to learn and change their views on things. They just want the facts. With a spiritually immature person, they feel that they know right from wrong, and that perhaps the person who is explaining the truth of the matter is coo-coo. Therefore, the spiritually immature person refuses to look in the mirror and question if they are in fact wrong, and to grow from that. When a person is immature they are childish and do foolish things. They worry about consequences later. They justify wrong behavior and always find a way to counteract everything. "When has a person grown into spiritual maturity?" When they can except themselves for who they are, realize their faults, make adjustments without throwing a fit or blaming others. Spiritual maturity welcomes positive change, growth, even at the expense of losing comfortable behaviors that were actually WRONG behaviors. Just because a person has done something for so long and is comfortable with it doesn't mean it's always appropriate. Spiritual MATURITY apologizes on his or her own. No one has to force you to do what is right. Spiritual MATURITY respects the other persons feelings even if they don't understand it,although they should atleast try to understand. Spiritual maturity communicates effectively with others, especially if others are communicating effectively with them. Spiritual maturity has compassion.
